Most Limited House

The living experience in Hutong is an expectation of many people who come to Beijing to try something new and experience the culture of the old city. The old houses retained in the Second Ring Road are usually densely planned in a limited space, and the building conditions required for modern life are not perfect. Our renovation practice this time is located in the concentrated housing area near Jiaodaokou, covering an area of only 20 square meters, but we also created a compact and warm living room for a family of three in a limited space.

The main body of the house is a long-term spatial combination, half of which is a traditional architectural style and the other half is a flat-roofed steel structure. There are six families living in a single building with separate partitions. The location of the project is the second household, and the left and right sides are separated from the neighbors by a wall. Since the sloping roof of the wood structure brings a certain height to the space, in the design, local subsidence can be used to add a local second floor to the space to expand the function.
